Welcome to John O’Groats

When I woke Tuesday morning I had just one thing on my mind; reaching John O’Groats. In so doing, I would complete the iconic English ride; the End-to-End. Most people take about 10-20 days to cycle the 874miles[1406kms]. The record is a staggering 1 day, 20 hours, 4 minutes and 20 seconds, set in 2001 by a Mr G. Butler. I, however, took a little bit longer and rode a little bit further. So if best viagra in india one needs to get over it whereas there are some who take the issue very easily. I did also start in Winchester, rode through Wales, Northern Ireland, the Outer Hebrides and the Western Highlands; not a very direct route.

In fact, completing the End-to-End was never the object of my UK tour; I simply decided to add both towns to the many others I would visit while touring the United Kingdom. And, I’m not done yet; I still have to make my way south towards London, where I’ll eventually fly back home to Canada.

Since I began touring the UK all those weeks and miles ago, I have met many others working to complete this tremendous feat; some by bicycle and some on foot; some in motor-cars, others on motor-bikes and even a few in motor-coaches. Regardless, they all had two things in common; the willingness to challenge themselves and the desire to live life to the fullest.

So, to all End-to-Enders and to everyone brave enough to live their dreams, I extend a heart-felt congratulations. To the rest of you, I have just one question; what are you waiting for?!

  1. Well done 🙂

I hope you enjoyed Groats as much as we did when we were there last Saturday.

We are this morning arriving back at Land’s End for the ceremonial finish to our trip.

It was great to meet you in Scotland and will continue to follow your trip via your blog.

  2. Hi Alex,
I’m the guy in the suit you met on the tube in London yesterday (Tue 2 Aug). Great talking to you. Reading your blog is reminding me of my own End-to-End (or LEJOG) ride and my Circuit of Ireland. Need to get planning my trans-America trip!

Will be keeping an eye on your blog.

    All the best. Stay safe.

  3. Hello and thank you for your comment, Mark. It was a pleasure to meet a fellow cycle-tourer, particularly on the tube. Funny enough, as I exited the underground at Marylebone station, I was advised that bicycles are strictly forbidden. When you do start to plan your trans-American trip, get in touch with me, as I may have some tips and advice on traveling down the US pacific coast, which I did last fall.
