Welcome to Hurricane, UT

Wednesday was a day off the bike but we did drive from west then south from Moab to Hurricane, Utah.  While the drive was uneventful, the views were astounding.  A horizon perpetually painted with the broad strokes of valley floor, mountains and sky.  The highway roads surrounded by huge rock walls and plunging cliffs.

With lunch by the side of the I-15, we arrived in Hurricane, UT some-time mid-afternoon and made our first stop the local bike shop, Over The Edge.  Within moments we were getting all the 411 on the local trails from Clayton and the owner of OTE, Quentin; two super friendly guys..  They directed us to two sections of trails and encouraged us to stay for their Saturday shop ride which would take us to a third–though less well marked–hot-spot.  With local topo/trail map in hand, we set out to find camp and chow.  Fortunately, the Willowind RV Park was just around the corner from the bike shop.

After laundry, showers and some bicycle maintenance, we took a stroll in search of food; Reilly had a hankering for some meat.[I’m the vegetarian]  After about ten minutes and even fewer options, we found ourselves at JB’s restaurant.  Eventually realising that everything on the menu included meat, I opted for the pasta with chicken and broccoli, minus the chicken.  It was awful, but the server gave me ice-cream, so all is forgiven.

Walking back to the van, we noticed a Chinese food restaurant, but one who’s pungent aroma was less than inviting.  Seems we made the right decision; a friend told us after-the-fact about just how terrible the place was: “…you could see the open wounds and sores on [the chef’s] hands and arms….ewwwwwww yeuch icky icky ick.”  Yup, bad pasta sure beats open arm sores.

Just hoping the riding options bested the dining options…
