This afternoon, Mr Cyr from L.E.Reinsborough School passed a message along from his 4/c students; “where is Alex?” It got me to thinking that I should really provide a status update–a situation report–on my travels.

From previous postings, you’ll recall that on February 11th, Irene and I rolled into the remote desert paradise of Terlingua, located in the Big Bend area of south-west Texas. With the exception of a spectacular 100km road ride on my birthday, I spent the next six weeks enjoying the most challenging and awe-inspiring mountain-biking I’ve ever experienced. Though I had originally planned to eventually continue riding east, I succumbed to the beauty, charm and hospitality of Terlingua, leaving for only the weekend trip to Austin. Tough though it was, I did finally leave.

On March 21st, Kt, Rick, Irene and I loaded ourselves–and their four bicycles–into Freida, their van–and made our way north-east. After stopping for nearly ten hours at the Korean sauna and spa in Dallas, we continued on to Arkansas, meeting our good friend Reilly in Fort Smith. After two days of mountain biking, kt and Rick hit the road, driving to Bloomfield, Ontario, where they own and operate the coolest bike shop in Canada, possibly the world. They have taken Irene with them and will be dropping her off in Toronto for me to collect when I return…

On Sunday, Reilly and I rode another two sets of mountain bike trails in the Fayetteville area, confirming what I’ve quickly come to learn; the mountain biking in Arkansas is fast, fun, technical, full of big climbs(and thus, descents) and without question, grossly under-rated. From what I’ve seen, the road riding here is equally as demanding…and rewarding. If you ever have the chance, bring your bikes to Fayetteville, visit Ben, Jay & Reilly at The Bike Route and get ready for some of the most enjoyable cycling you could ever hope for. cialis 5mg cheap The pill has Sildenafil citrate inside it which helps the supply of blood to the penis of the man. Wednesday, March, 30th, I fly from Tulsa, Oklahoma–about a two hour drive west of Fayetteville, AR–to Portland, OR. The next day will be spent getting more work done to my right arm by tattoo genius Joey Burnz at Hopeless Ink in Vancouver, WA. Since I liked Portland so much when I rode through here way back in November, I’ve decided to stay for the weekend. On Monday, April 4th, I fly direct from Portland, OR to Toronto, Ontario, thus completing my tour of the United States. Well, this leg at least…

Between then and May 18th, I’ll spend my time between Toronto, Ottawa and Picton, Ontario with friends, family and a few favourite bike routes. I’m also entering the Paris-to-Ancaster bicycle race on April 17th; Irene and I are really looking forward to it.

On May 18th, I board a British Airways flight to London, England. A few days later on Monday the 23rd, I will resume touring, exploring my homeland; a country I’ve not lived in for over 30 years and have not visited for over 20.

So while one trip ends, the next is already beginning to take shape. While there, I do hope you all will continue to visit my blog, enjoy the pictures and post your comments. In the meantime, I think I need another coffee before one more mountain bike ride in Arkansas!

  6. Hi Alex,
Do you know how you said that you would like to bike through Alaska and Hawaii? Well, I would like to bike there too? Except, I might get too cold in Alaska, and too hot in Hawaii.
