Living the life, one home at a time.

As I type these words I sit perched upon my duffel-bag at Denver International Airport [DEN] waiting for a 6:15am flight to Buffalo, NY where I’ll then take the Greyhound bus across the border to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  Since I was there last–November 30th–I’ve explored several remarkable US States, ridden countless hours over hundreds of miles on my mountain-bike, purchased a new 29’er single-speed bike and have even met a very special someone.

For the past six days Salida, Colorado has been my home; several days riding the local trails, one day spent snowboarding, plenty of tasty meals and many hours hanging out with wonderful friends.  While I miss my Terlingua crew, most are dispersing across North America[and beyond] as the punishing summer heat descends upon the Big Bend.  Some I will see this summer, others not till my return to the desert in December.

My plans for the summer are coming together nicely; live and train in Colorado at elevation in preparation to race the Leadville 100 in August and the Vapor Trail 125 in September.  Plans for a six-week bike-packing trip around Bolivia mid-October till end-November are starting to take form, as are plans for the time between the Vapor and Bolivia.

In about 24 hours, however, I’ll be back in Canada surrounded by familiar sights and some of the most amazing people I know.  I’m looking forward to returning home, to catching up with my Toronto peeps, as well as my family in Ottawa.  There are taxes to be filed, a dental appointment to honour and a bit of road-riding in the County to keep those legs spinning.  All the while, I know that where-ever I am, be it Canada, the States, England or elsewhere, the love of life surrounds me and I am swimming in all it’s glory.

Yup, life is pretty okay, even when sitting uncomfortably in an airport for twelve hours.  Maybe even because of it.
