Yesterday was my 41st birthday; good job mum and dad, way to breed. In honour of the occasion I am trying desperately to come up with some pithy summary of the past twelve months, to wow you with eloquence and inspire you with insight.  Sigh. I got nothin’, just the bland observation that life, well, it just kinda happens.

There were times over the past year where I made expectations of myself and others. There were times when I struggled and was rewarded, many more where I strove and failed. There were moments of pain, both physical and emotional.  There were reasons to celebrate, excuses to sulk. I made new friends and lost a couple of others. I cried for several reasons but cheered for so many more. On a few occasions I felt like the world was mine to own; moments later, I was again its slave.

But all of those experiences were just moments in time, nothing more, nothing less.  Absolving those moments of the baggage I’ve attached them, I’ve set them free…and myself.  So, as much as possible this year, I’m going to really try to simply experience each of those moments.  Not to judge them, not to celebrate them, certainly not to curse them.  But rather, to simply let them happen.
