With the Hairshirt behind me, there are many more miles just waiting to be ridden. A bit of recovery, however, was certainly in order. I took off Monday and Tuesday. On my way to Ottawa Tuesday, I stopped through Prince Edward County and enjoyed a pre-breakfast 40km ride Wednesday morning with Rick. Ahhhh, just what the doctor ordered; smooth empty roads; never laboured or working hard; a land of subtle, tranquil beauty.
Bringing Sophie with me to Ottawa, I did something I had not done in about 8 years; I went for a ride in the Gatineau Park, also known as going to the Gats. A huge National Capital Commission conservation area, it has long been the destination for cyclists through-out the Ottawa-Hull region. Riding from the cheap motel in Bells Corners, along the picturesque Ottawa River Parkway and across the river into la belle province, Québec, I was transported to a world of lush, enveloping natural majesty. Riding to the awe-inspiring Champlain Lookout, I stopped for a quick snack and a few pictures before turning back down hill and the ride home.
Yup, a little piece of heaven in the Outaouais.
