Ahh, an other beautiful day cycling in The County.[that’s Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada] Though there was a slight misting of rain when I rose at 6am, the skies continued to clear all day until they reached their azure peak mid-afternoon. All day was also the duration of the head/cross winds. Really; for most of our 130kms we fought the wind. But we were a strong, determined crew content to face the wind head-on. Not that we had a choice in the matter, but as Peter always reminds me, “the wind is your friend, the wind makes you strong.” All-in-all it really was a lovely ride, even if a few of us were really feeling those extra 30kms.
Without question, the most entertaining part of the ride came just as we arrived in the town of Consecon. Down the road about 100metres, we spied two other cyclists coming to a halt. Well, one of them decided to come to a much more abrupt stop than he hay have anticipated. Local-boy Don pulled on his front brakes, not realizing just how tightly they’d been adjusted. Yup, all of a sudden there was both man and bicycle doing summersaults in the air. It was really quite spectacular. Don must have known this, since his first question as we rolled up to offer assistance was “did you get that on film?!” I tried to get him to repeat his acrobatic performance for the camera but he and his posse had a date with a six-pack or two.
