Wow, what a day!  Waking at 4:45am, it took me about a minute to remember why I was up at such an hour.  Once I remembered the 250kms I intended to ride, I was up and getting ready.  Though the air was very humid and the roads very wet, it was not actually raining as I set out.  It was, however, quite windy and only about 11degrees Celsius.

After nearly 100kms and making my way towards the bike shop, I ran into Jeff and the Club, whereupon I turned around and joined them for about 80kms of hilly riding.  As Jeff knew the mileage I was aiming for today, I think he cut the Club ride a bit short on distance but tall in climbs, just to make me hurt. Thanks Jeff!  Fortunately, the weather to continued to stay mostly dry, raining only twice and for only a few minutes each time.  Otherwise, it was a beautiful day, topping out at about 20degrees.

Returning to the store with the Club, Jeff and I then turned back for more miles and more hills.  North of Waterdown, Jeff turned back for home, while I continued on for another 60kms.  By the time I got home, I’d completed about 257kms, climbed over 6200feet (compared to just 2500feet for the 322km Hairshirt), burned about ten billion calories over 9hrs 22mins, with an average speed of just over 27kph.

At home, I showered and devoured the quiche that my house-mate, MaryAnne, had kindly prepared.  I’ve since had a two hour nap, have eaten more–including brownies and ice-cream–and am looking forward to going back to bed.  Damn I love cycling/suffering!!
