2014 Chihuahuan Desert Bike Fest

It’s happening!  For the past several days various little indicators have been popping up. On Sunday we flagged the trails in the State Park.  On Monday, Kt and I bumped into Bundy while out riding.  I hear that Bike Jeremy is in town.  Yesterday, Becca and I spent the day in Alpine buying 5 days worth of food for the organisers.  Last evening, I saw several RV’s driving in to town with bikes on the back.   Today, David arrived with is bike.  Oh, and Desert Sports is just buzzin’!  Yup, the Chihuahuan Desert Bike Fest is nearly upon us!!

With over 360 people pre-registered(compared to 190 last year), another 150-200 expected to register on ride-day, and all the spouses, kids, friends and lovers in tow, about a thousand people will soon descend upon our little desert community for three days of incomparable mountain-biking.   Thursday-Saturday there will be a myriad of organised rides of varying lengths and difficulties on trails in the Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park and the Lajitas trail system.   More than just riding, there will be a ghost-ride competition, a bike-toss event, lots of locally brewed beer, movies, vendors with high-end bikes to borrow, music and all the positive happy vibes imaginable.

The riding down here really is special; the trails, the landscape, the weather(forecast is low-eighties and sunny).  But what really makes the riding so grand, what brings people back year after year, is the community; both the Big Bend/Terlingua community as well as the cycling community.  We are passionate, we are dedicated; we ride, we smile, we love and we ride some more.  The only thing missing, is you!!
